Class C violation
HPD's immediately hazardous violation class: conditions that threaten health or safety now, with the shortest correction deadlines.
Class C is the class that matters most when reading a building: no heat, no hot water, lead paint hazards with a young child in the home, rodents, broken window guards. Correction windows are short (generally 24 hours; heat and hot water immediately), and uncorrected Class C conditions can trigger HPD's own emergency repair machinery at the owner's expense.
Open Class C violations are counted separately on every building page here because they are the strongest single signal in the public record.
