HPD hazard classes and equivalents across agencies
For journalists
Everything here is free to use in reporting with credit to “OpenViolations (openviolations.org)”. No notice required. An owner’s buildings across shell LLCs are already grouped on their portfolio page, and every ranking states its method and can be cited as published. If you need a cut we do not publish, like totals by council district or community board, write to us and we will run the query against the raw data and send the file.
Corrections policy: report a number that looks wrong (email above, or the report formon any page) and a person checks it against the source dataset. If our copy is off we fix it and note the fix; if the city’s record is what is off, we say so and point you at the agency. Methodology and verification questions get a written answer you can quote.
Get the data
Every building page exports its full record as CSV, every ranking is citable as published, and custom cuts are a message away (above). For bulk work, our numbers trace to the six public datasets below — the same feeds we ingest hourly — so anything we publish can be verified, or pulled in full, at the source. The complete ingest list is in the dataset log further down.
Per-building CSV is already live on every building page. Full dataset catalog: data.cityofnewyork.us
Where this data comes from
Every dataset behind this site: where it comes from, how often we pull it, and when it last updated. Backfilling means the first full load is still running. Updating means the city re-published the dataset and we are re-walking it, which some DOB feeds require nightly. Retrying means the last pull hit a transient error and the next hourly run will retry it. Sync failing means a dataset has not synced in over a day and may be missing recent records.
Rows synced is a rounded count of the rows our pipeline has pulled since we started tracking it, not the size of the source dataset. Source: NYC Open Data (data.cityofnewyork.us). Times shown in Eastern Time (ET). Free to use with attribution.
