Lead paint violation

A violation of Local Law 1 of 2004, which presumes lead paint in pre-1960 buildings and requires owners to find and fix hazards where young children live.

New York City's lead law, codified at Administrative Code §§ 27-2056.1 through 27-2056.18, presumes that peeling paint in a pre-1960 multiple dwelling contains lead when a child under six lives there, and puts the burden of inspection, remediation and safe work practices on the owner. Lead paint hazards with a young child in the home are Class C, and the correction process is more demanding than an ordinary repair: certified workers, clearance testing, documentation.
