NYC Housing Maintenance Code § 27-2107 · cited Feb 2, 2015 – Jul 23, 2026
704,494 NYC housing violations have been issued under NYC Housing Maintenance Code § 27-2107, which is 8.4% of every HPD violation attributed to a section. 213,503 are still open.
Owners of multiple dwellings, and of one- and two-family homes where neither owner nor family occupies the property, must register annually with HPD and keep the registration current.
File or update the registration with HPD. The violation clears once a valid registration is on file; no physical repair is involved.
An unregistered building cannot certify other violations, and the owner cannot sue to recover rent, so this one blocks more than itself.
